192.168.31.1 Router Login

192.168.31.1 belongs to Xiaomi. Every Mi Router and Redmi router, from the AX1800 and AX3000 to the AX6000 and the older 3G and 4A, uses it as the gateway, and the same page is reachable by typing miwifi.com. Xiaomi does not ship a default admin password: you create one during setup, and by default it is the same as the Wi-Fi password unless you untick that option. The routers can also be managed from the Mi Home or Mi Wi-Fi app, but the web page at 192.168.31.1 exposes settings the app hides, including the full DHCP table, static leases and the built-in firewall.

How to log in at 192.168.31.1

  1. Connect to the router’s network. Join its Wi-Fi or plug in with an Ethernet cable. Mobile data, a VPN, or a different router’s Wi-Fi will not reach 192.168.31.1.
  2. Type the address in the URL bar. Enter http://192.168.31.1 exactly, in the address bar at the top of the browser, not in a search box. Some devices also answer to a hostname such as miwifi.com, router.miwifi.com.
  3. Accept a certificate warning if one appears. Routers that use HTTPS on the local network present a self-signed certificate. On your own router the warning is expected; choose Advanced and proceed.
  4. Sign in. Use the credentials from the table above or from the label on the router. Usernames are case-sensitive on some firmware.
  5. Change the admin password. Do this before anything else. Default credentials are public, and remote management, if enabled, exposes the login to the internet.

Chinese firmware versus global firmware

Xiaomi sells the same hardware with two firmware families. The global version presents the admin page in English and offers the settings most users need. The Chinese version has more options, including some advanced routing and VPN features, but the interface is in Chinese and a translation extension helps. Both live at 192.168.31.1. If you imported a router and the page is in Chinese, check whether a global firmware exists for your model before attempting a switch, because not every model has one.

Common mistypes of 192.168.31.1

None of these open anything. Each is a slip that sends people to a search page or a timeout instead of the admin panel.

192.168.31.1 will not open: what to check

Wrong gateway. The most common cause by far. Read the Default Gateway from your device: ipconfig on Windows, Wi-Fi details on macOS, iPhone and Android, or ip route on Linux. If it is not 192.168.31.1, that is the address to use.

Typed into search. A page of search results means the address went to a search engine. Click the address bar, clear it, and type the IP again. Adding http:// in front forces the browser to treat it as an address.

HTTPS forced. Some browsers upgrade to https:// automatically and the router does not answer there. Type http:// explicitly.

VPN or private DNS. A VPN routes everything away from the local network; secure DNS in the browser can break router hostnames. Turn both off while you log in.

169.254.x.x address. If your device shows an address starting 169.254, it never received one from the router. Restart both devices, and check the cable or Wi-Fi connection.

Forgotten password. Defaults failing means someone changed the password. Hold the reset button for about ten seconds to return the unit to factory settings, which also erases its configuration and Wi-Fi name.

Frequently asked questions

What is the default password for 192.168.31.1?
There is none. You set the admin password during first setup, and unless you unticked the option, it is identical to the Wi-Fi password you chose. If you have forgotten both, reset the router by holding the button for about five seconds.
Why does miwifi.com open my Xiaomi router?
Xiaomi routers answer DNS queries for miwifi.com with their own address, 192.168.31.1, as long as you are connected to them. From any other network the name goes to Xiaomi’s website instead.
Why won’t 192.168.31.1 load?
Make sure you are on the Xiaomi router’s Wi-Fi and not on an upstream ISP router. If the Xiaomi unit is in repeater or wired-relay mode, it takes an address from the main router and 192.168.31.1 no longer applies; the app shows its current address.
Can I use the Mi Home app instead of 192.168.31.1?
For Wi-Fi name and password, guest network, device list and speed limits, yes. Port forwarding, static DHCP leases, DDNS and the firewall are only on the web page.
