10.0.0.1 is the default gateway on Xfinity and Comcast Business gateways, on many Arris and Technicolor units, and on some Netgear and Motorola cable modems. It comes from the 10.0.0.0/8 private range rather than the 192.168 range most consumer routers use, which is why people who have moved from another provider often cannot find their admin page: they are typing 192.168.1.1 into a network that lives at 10.0.0.1.
Default logins for devices on 10.0.0.1
Factory credentials by brand. Where a device prints a unique password on its label, that label overrides anything listed here. If a default fails, the password has been changed and a factory reset restores it.
| Brand / model | Username | Password | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xfinity xFi Gateway | admin | password | XB6, XB7, XB8; you are prompted to change it at first login |
| Comcast Business | cusadmin | highspeed | Business gateways from Cisco, Netgear and Technicolor |
| Arris | admin | password | TG and SBG series; Surfboard modems may use a blank password |
| Technicolor | admin | password | TC and CGA series supplied by cable ISPs |
| Motorola | admin | motorola | MG and MT cable gateways |
| Netgear (cable) | admin | password | CG3000, CG814 and C-series |
| Cisco (ISP) | admin | password | DPC and DPQ cable gateways |
| Ubiquiti UniFi (custom) | set at setup | set at setup | Some UniFi networks are configured on 10.0.0.1 |
How to log in at 10.0.0.1
- Connect to the gateway’s network. Join its Wi-Fi or plug in with an Ethernet cable. Mobile data, a VPN, or a different router’s Wi-Fi will not reach 10.0.0.1.
- Type the address in the URL bar. Enter
http://10.0.0.1exactly, in the address bar at the top of the browser, not in a search box. Some devices also answer to a hostname such as routerlogin.net. - Accept a certificate warning if one appears. Routers that use HTTPS on the local network present a self-signed certificate. On your own router the warning is expected; choose Advanced and proceed.
- Sign in. Use the credentials from the table above or from the label on the gateway. Usernames are case-sensitive on some firmware.
- Change the admin password. Do this before anything else. Default credentials are public, and remote management, if enabled, exposes the login to the internet.
Hostnames that reach the same page
These names resolve to 10.0.0.1 while you are connected to the device, and keep working even if the address has been changed.
| Hostname | Devices |
|---|---|
| routerlogin.net | Netgear cable units |
Common mistypes of 10.0.0.1
None of these open anything. Each is a slip that sends people to a search page or a timeout instead of the admin panel.
10.0.0.1 will not open: what to check
Wrong gateway. The most common cause by far. Read the Default Gateway from your device: ipconfig on Windows, Wi-Fi details on macOS, iPhone and Android, or ip route on Linux. If it is not 10.0.0.1, that is the address to use. If the ISP unit is in bridge mode behind your own router, its page is not reachable from your network; connect a computer directly to it.
Typed into search. A page of search results means the address went to a search engine. Click the address bar, clear it, and type the IP again. Adding http:// in front forces the browser to treat it as an address.
HTTPS forced. Some browsers upgrade to https:// automatically and the router does not answer there. Type http:// explicitly.
VPN or private DNS. A VPN routes everything away from the local network; secure DNS in the browser can break router hostnames. Turn both off while you log in.
169.254.x.x address. If your device shows an address starting 169.254, it never received one from the router. Restart both devices, and check the cable or Wi-Fi connection.
Forgotten password. Defaults failing means someone changed the password. Hold the reset button for about ten seconds to return the unit to factory settings, which also erases its configuration and Wi-Fi name.
Find your router’s real address
| Device | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Windows 10 / 11 | Command Prompt → ipconfig → Default Gateway |
| macOS | System Settings → Wi-Fi → Details → TCP/IP → Router |
| iPhone / iPad | Settings → Wi-Fi → (i) → Router |
| Android | Wi-Fi → network details → Gateway (varies by maker) |
| Linux | ip route | grep default |
