192.168.100.1 Cable Modem Login

192.168.100.1 is different from the other addresses on this site. On DOCSIS cable modems from Arris, Motorola, Netgear and Technicolor it is a fixed diagnostics address that works even when the modem is in bridge mode and has no LAN address of its own. It shows downstream and upstream signal levels, error counts and event logs, which is exactly what a support agent asks for when your connection keeps dropping. Huawei also uses it as the admin page on many HG and EchoLife fibre units and on some 4G routers.

Factory credentials by brand. Where a device prints a unique password on its label, that label overrides anything listed here. If a default fails, the password has been changed and a factory reset restores it.

How to log in at 192.168.100.1

  1. Connect to the modem’s network. Join its Wi-Fi or plug in with an Ethernet cable. Mobile data, a VPN, or a different router’s Wi-Fi will not reach 192.168.100.1.
  2. Type the address in the URL bar. Enter http://192.168.100.1 exactly, in the address bar at the top of the browser, not in a search box. Some devices also answer to a hostname such as homerouter.cpe.
  3. Accept a certificate warning if one appears. Routers that use HTTPS on the local network present a self-signed certificate. On your own router the warning is expected; choose Advanced and proceed.
  4. Sign in. Use the credentials from the table above or from the label on the modem. Usernames are case-sensitive on some firmware.
  5. Change the admin password. Do this before anything else. Default credentials are public, and remote management, if enabled, exposes the login to the internet.

Reading the signal levels

The status page is where cable connection problems become visible. Downstream power should sit roughly between -7 and +7 dBmV and signal-to-noise ratio above 33 dB on QAM256 channels. Upstream power should be under about 51 dBmV; a modem transmitting at its maximum is straining to reach the node and will drop offline. Uncorrectable codeword counts that climb while you watch point to a line fault. Take a screenshot before you call support; it shortens the conversation considerably.

If the modem is in bridge mode, this page is often the only way to see its state, because your own router sits in front of it and 192.168.100.1 is reached through a special route the modem answers on regardless of the LAN subnet.

Hostnames that reach the same page

These names resolve to 192.168.100.1 while you are connected to the device, and keep working even if the address has been changed.

Common mistypes of 192.168.100.1

None of these open anything. Each is a slip that sends people to a search page or a timeout instead of the admin panel.

192.168.100.1 will not open: what to check

Wrong gateway. The most common cause by far. Read the Default Gateway from your device: ipconfig on Windows, Wi-Fi details on macOS, iPhone and Android, or ip route on Linux. If it is not 192.168.100.1, that is the address to use. On cable connections 192.168.100.1 is the modem, so if you are looking for Wi-Fi settings you want the router’s own address instead.

Typed into search. A page of search results means the address went to a search engine. Click the address bar, clear it, and type the IP again. Adding http:// in front forces the browser to treat it as an address.

HTTPS forced. Some browsers upgrade to https:// automatically and the router does not answer there. Type http:// explicitly.

VPN or private DNS. A VPN routes everything away from the local network; secure DNS in the browser can break router hostnames. Turn both off while you log in.

169.254.x.x address. If your device shows an address starting 169.254, it never received one from the router. Restart both devices, and check the cable or Wi-Fi connection.

Forgotten password. Defaults failing means someone changed the password. Hold the reset button for about ten seconds to return the unit to factory settings, which also erases its configuration and Wi-Fi name.

Frequently asked questions

Why does 192.168.100.1 open my modem and not my router?
Because on cable connections it is a diagnostic address built into the modem, separate from whatever address your router uses. Your router’s admin page is at its default gateway, usually 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1.
What is the login for 192.168.100.1?
Arris and Netgear use admin / password, Motorola uses admin / motorola, Technicolor and Huawei use admin / admin, and Hitron uses cusadmin / password. Many older Arris Surfboard status pages need no login at all.
Can I change settings at 192.168.100.1?
On a plain modem there is little to change beyond rebooting and viewing logs; the ISP controls the configuration. On a combined modem-router or a Huawei ONT you get the full admin panel with Wi-Fi and LAN settings.
What do the downstream and upstream numbers mean?
Downstream is signal arriving from the network, upstream is what your modem transmits. Power out of range or low signal-to-noise on downstream, or very high upstream power, are the classic signs of a wiring or line problem rather than a router problem.
